Alvin C. Schaffner
Age 91, of Canton, passed away Friday, March 23, 2018. He was born Nov. 16, 1926 in Canton, a son of the late John and Mabel (Koontz) Schaffner, and was a life resident. Alvin was a graduate of Timken High School, and was retired from The Timken Co., after 39 ½ years service, where he was a foreman. He was a member of Christ The Servant Parish, and was Volunteer Fireman for the Edgefield Fire Dept. He and his wife enjoyed camping at Tappan Lake for 51 years. Alvin served in the U. S. Army during World War II. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Betty R. Schaffner, on March 7, 2003, two sisters and two brothers, Dorothy Zerbe, Lillian Humbert, John L. and Eugene Schaffner. He is survived by two daughters and one son, Cheryl (John) Paskowitz, Dana (Paul) Granchi, and Robert (Kathleen) Schaffner; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Casey (Dave) Persinger, and her son, Brandon Knox, John (Nicole) Paskowitz, and children, A.J. Paskowitz, James Richards, Lydia and Jack Summers, Paul (Angie) Granchi, Jr., and their children, Colton and Brooklyn, Kristen (David) Knight, and their daughters, Reagan and Rylie, Erin (Brian) Williams, and Jenna (Andrew) Garlock. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Christ The Servant Parish with Msgr. Lewis F. Gaetano as Celebrant. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery with Military Honors. Friends may call Sunday 2-4 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Alvin’s memory may be made to either the Stark County Humane Society, PO Box 7077, Canton, OH 44705, or the American Cancer Society.
