Obituary for Kathleen (McCoy) Klich

Kathy Klich, long-time resident of North Canton, Ohio, died Monday, following a long battle with Parkinson’s disease. Born in Canton, she graduated from Rittman High School, and received a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from the University of Akron. During her teaching career with the Stark County Board of Developmental Disabilities, she directed the Sounds of Silence sign language choir, which became well known throughout the state of Ohio and even went on to perform for Bill and Hillary Clinton during the 1993 presidential inauguration festivities. Kathy also spent many summers volunteering with Special Persons Camp at Camp Wanake, in Beach City, and Camp Jukebox. Upon her retirement in 2003, she continued to volunteer with Stark DD and joined A Chorus for a Cause, performing at Carnegie Hall. She was a long-time member of Westbrook Park United Methodist Church, in Canton. She was cherished by her family, friends, and students. Preceded in death by parents Charles and Martha McCoy and husband James Klich. Survived by son Jonathan Ewing, daughter Ashley Ewing Redieck (William), sister Carol Morrison (Robert), step-daughters Laura Henderson, Jennifer Klich Murphy, Susanne Klich Langford, Kellie Sues, step-grandchildren Brenna Henderson, Kailey Klich, Izabelle Sues. Friends may call Thursday 6pm-8pm at Lamiell Funeral Home. Funeral services at Westbrook Park Church Friday at 10am, followed by private burial.
