Anne M. Bretean, age 96 passed away peacefully August 17, 2016 surrounded by family. Anne, a lifelong resident of the Canton area, was born to the late Joseph and Mary Soldatis. Anne graduated from McKinley High School. She and her husband of 65 years, John Bretean owned and operated several businesses over the years, starting in 1946 with Bretean's Grocery Store at 12th Street and Gibbs Avenue N.E. They remained at that location until 1963, turning the grocery store into a prepared-foods market, and then opening a delicatessen in 1959 at North Plaza, where they remained until 1971. Most notable over their 45 years in the restaurant business were the Mellet Mall and Hillsdale Plaza locations of their Bretean's Cafeterias; Mellet Mall from 1965-1990 and Hillsdale from 1971-1983. Anne was preceded in death by her partner in business and life, her husband, John Bretean, sisters, Agnes Roth and Mary Armogida and brothers, Steven and Joseph Soldatis. Anne is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Graveside service will be Monday at 11:30 a.m. at North Lawn Cemetery.
