Arlene J. (DeVille) Shankel, age 94, died Friday. She was a life resident of Canton, 1941 graduate of Mt. Marie Academy and was a member of Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Mercy Medical Center Service League, Avondale Association and a longtime member of Brookside Country Club. Preceded in death by her husband, Harry Shankel, great-granddaughter, Avery Shankel, parents, Harry and Zelma (Benz) DeVille, sister, Maxine Boltres and niece, Patricia Kress. Survived by her daughter, Susan (Dennis) Harless of Gilbert, Arizona, sons, Harry "Mickey" (Marlene) Shankel of Gilbert, Arizona and Steven Shankel of Canton, grandchildren, Brett Shankel of Arizona, Eric (Linda) Shankel of Nevada, Dennis II (Katrina) Harless of Arizona, Jason (Christina Vagotis) Harless of Avon, Dr. Christin (Dr. Veljko Strajina) Harless and Danielle Harless all of Minnesota and Stewart (Laura) Shankel and Jacob Shankel of Canton, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home and Friday from 9-10 a.m. at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. with Father Scott Kopp as celebrant. Entombment will be in the Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Akron Children's Hospital.
