Carole Szink passed away peacefully just shy of her 91st birthday on December 15th, with her husband, David, by her side. Born on January 3, 1935, in Canton, Ohio, Carole lived a life rich in kindness, curiosity, and devotion to family and friends.
She found joy in simple things such as dogs, gardening, travel, dining out, attending church, and finding that perfect vanilla latte. A special gift she possessed was making others feel welcome and valued. Carole leaves behind a beautiful legacy of love, laughter, and lessons that will continue to guide those who were fortunate to know her.
She is survived by her husband, David; her children, Robert Gatrell (Jo Ann Senesac), Karen Chirumbolo, Steve Gatrell (Denise), and Cristine Whittington (Dave); her brothers, Jim and John Griesen; four grandchildren—Bruno Chirumbolo Jr. (Lindsey), Andrea Holley (Adam), Megan Fantone (Matthew), and Noah Whittington; and six great-grandchildren—Sydney and Avery Chirumbolo, Alexandra and Alaina Holley, and Amelia and Calvin Fantone—who were a constant source of joy.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, John Gatrell, and her sister, Virginia Griesen.
Her life will be celebrated on Thursday, December 18th, with a private viewing at Lamiell Funeral Home at 9:30 a.m., followed by services at St. Michael the Archangel Church at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, in honor of Carole’s love for nature, donations may be made in her name to The Wilderness Center.
