Carrie Ethel (Smith) Fickes, age 85, died Friday after a short illness. Born in Sandy Hook, Kentucky, she lived in Canton most of her life, was retired from the Colonial Nursing Home where she was a cook and a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Her passion in life was her family and she enjoyed cooking and baking. Survived by her husband of 56 years, Richard T. Fickes, daughters, Susanne (Chris) Keim of Canton, Marjory (Scott) Keim of Waynesburg, Janet (Dean) Zimmerman of Davenport, Florida and Marilyn (Jim) Edwards of Canton, son, Thomas R. (Marlene) Fickes of Akron, 11 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, sisters, Delma Stamper of Morehead, Kentucky, Mary Evelyn Ratliff of Sandy Hook, Kentucky and Lou Jean (Jack) Vernatter of Olive Hill, Kentucky and brother, Donald (Barb) Smith of Morehead, Kentucky. Preceded in death by an infant sister and three brothers. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Saint Joseph Catholic Church with Monsignor Frank Carfagna as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home.
