Charles W. Goddard, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and proud American, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025, at the age of 90, surrounded by love at Aultman Compassionate Care Center in North Canton, Ohio.

And if he could ask you one thing right now, it would be: "Do you know where the first capital of Ohio was?"

Born on October 13, 1934, in Follansbee, West Virginia, Charles was the cherished son of the late Charles M. Goddard and Adeline E. (Witsberger) Goddard. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Carrie Coss Goddard, and his dear sister, June Goddard Genoaldi.

Charles proudly served his country in the United States Air Force before beginning a long and respected career as an auditor with the IRS. He was a man who always looked for the best in others.

His life was filled with memorable moments. As a young man, he caddied for Dean Martin and, while working as an elevator operator at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, D.C., he shared a ride with General Douglas MacArthur. In 1960, he witnessed baseball history in person at Game 7 of the World Series, watching Bill Mazeroski's walk-off home run bring victory to the Pittsburgh Pirates. A lifelong Pittsburgh sports fan, Charles and his wife Carrie supported the Steelers even during their toughest seasons, and he rejoiced in the team's incredible turnaround during the 1970s, celebrating four Super Bowl wins in six years—and two more in the years that followed. He was also a devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes, cheering them on through multiple national championships.

Yet it was not fame or fortune that defined Charles—he was simply and deeply content. He found joy in life's quieter moments, and it was his enduring love for his family and his compassionate presence that made the greatest impact. In 1976, he donated a kidney to his oldest son. He was a proud member of the Canton Knights of Columbus and served as secretary of the Greater Canton Bowling Association for 19 years.

Charles is survived by his loving children: daughter Chiara Goddard; sons Charles (Mini) Goddard and Christopher (Christine) Goddard; and his adored grandchildren, Courtney, Caleb, Camden, and Logan. To them, he leaves behind countless memories, enduring love, and an example of quiet heroism and lifelong devotion.
