Charles E. Thompson

Charles E. Thompson, age 97, passed away March 6, 2025. Originally from Pratt City, Alabama, now joins his parents, James and Helen Harkins Thompson and wife, Patricia L. Thompson who preceded him in death.

He is survived by his children: James Thompson of Canton, Lori and Shane Diaz Thompson of Tennessee, Daniel and June Thompson of Nevada; grandchildren, Jason Thompson, Kyle and Colleen Thompson, and Cory Thompson; great-grands, Gracie, Lio and Cerie Thompson.

He lived most of his life in Canton and attended St John High School where he excelled in sports and graduated from St Mary High School in Kentucky. After a brief enlistment in the US Navy, he became a lay brother in the Crosier Fathers & Brothers monastery for a number of years. He graduated from Ohio State University in 1959 and was an honorary member of the PHI Kappa fraternity. His professional career was spent as an insurance claims manager with the Hartford and Grange Mutual insurance companies, retiring in 1991. After retirement, he and Patricia lived in Florida for 10 years before returning to Canton, OH. He served as president as the Canton Claims Association and was a member of St Joseph parish where he was an usher.

The family will receive guests at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Canton on Monday, March 17, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Massillon.
