It is with deep sadness, we share the passing of Clayton Cessna, our beloved husband, father, Papa, and brother on April 25, 2025. Born January 6, 1937, he was the third of four children to the late Henrietta and Clayton Cessna.
He spent his younger years in the Minerva, Ohio area, graduating from Minerva High School in 1956. Clayton was a man of the outdoors. He loved the peace and wilderness of the Allegheny National Forest, which bordered the property of his cherished cabin in Bradford Pennsylvania, where he would sit on the front porch by the hours, watching for deer, bear, or other forest animals to wander by.
At home, Clayton could be found, accompanied by his constant companion, Nico, either outside taking care of the yard, being
meticulous in gathering and hauling those leaves to the township station, or in the garage working on the project of the day.
His main priority, though, was his beloved family. Papa could always be found at a baseball game watching his grandson, Carmen; a softball game watching his granddaughter, Gianna; or at a volleyball game watching his granddaughter, Isabella.
They and granddaughter and grandson, Olivia and Jay Cessna of Michigan, were the pride and joy of his life.
No matter what the issue of the day for family or friends, Clayton would always find a way to fix, support, or trouble shoot through it. He spent his entire working career in the construction field, first as a carpenter, and then, for many years, as superintendent for several local construction companies, all of which held him in high regard. He was especially proud of being a sixty-year member of Carpenters' Local 69.
Clayton will always be remembered for being a hard-working and supporting rock for
his entire family. Our hearts are broken, and he will truly be missed, so much, as we find our way without him, however, knowing that he is resting in peace in the arms and presence of our Lord and all those loved ones, who have gone before. He was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in North Canton.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Joan Cessna; daughter, Christina (Frank) Papaleo; son, Philip (Vicki) Cessna; grandchildren, Carmen, Gianna, and Isabella Papaleo; Olivia and Jay Cessna; sons, Clayton Cessna and Vince Cessna; seven
additional grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanine Carson of Woodridge, Illinois, Cassie Small of Winchester, Tennessee; and many loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Henrietta and Clayton Cessna and his brother, Robert Cessna.
