Darla Fitz Frederick

Darla Fitz Frederick, 81, passed on to eternal rest in heaven on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, embraced in the loving arms of her children. She was born in Canton, Ohio to parents Dr. George R. and Mae A. Fitz. She spent her childhood at the family home in Canton, helping with the family farm and golf driving range in Jackson Township. Her summers were filled with work, swimming, and riding horses.

She was a member of the Masonic organizations Job's Daughters and the Order of the Eastern Star. Darla was a graduate of Lehman High School in Canton and followed family tradition by attending Ohio State University before transferring to the University of Tampa, graduating with a degree in Primary Education. She was a proud Buckeye and Spartan in equal measure, and a lifelong devotee of Florida's swaying palms and sun-soaked beaches. She had a diverse career, but her truest calling was that of a teacher. She gently and affectionately crafted young hearts and minds and gave her students a firm foundation for their futures.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Georgia Lee Graham and Abby Jo Clark; and her brother, Dr. Robert Fitz. She survives in the love of her three children, Richard L. Frederick III of Dublin, OH, Craig S. (Karen) Frederick of Huntersville, NC, and Penny (Bill) Wyner of Dublin, OH; and being Grammy to her five grandchildren, Cole, Austin, Maisey, Jenna and Kade; her beloved partner of 40 years, Robert Kolopus of Elyria, OH; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 7th, from 4pm to 7pm at Lamiell Funeral Home, 1353 Cleveland Ave. NW Canton, OH 44703, with the service on Saturday, March 8th at 9:30 am at Christ Presbyterian Church, 530 Tuscarawas St., Canton, Ohio 44702. Interment will follow at the site of her family's rest at Sunset Hills Burial Park, 5001 Everhard Rd., Canton, Ohio 44718.
