Doris and Roy also took their children on family mission trips, serving communities in need and instilling in them the importance of helping others.
Doris Jean Richards, 97, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2026. Born on November 11, 1928, in Middlebranch, Ohio, she was the daughter of Werner and Helen (Spangler) Dysle. Throughout her life, Doris was guided by her devotion to family, faith, and service to others.
A wife, mother, and homemaker, Doris found great joy in caring for her husband, Roy, and their seven children. Her generosity extended well beyond her own family, as she warmly welcomed exchange students and refugees into their busy home. Doris and Roy also took their children on family mission trips, serving communities in need and instilling in them the importance of helping others. She was an active member of the Christian Family Movement (CFM), as well as garden and card clubs.
Following Roy’s retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling the world and spending winters in Florida, where they became active members of their community, participating in the Follies and other social activities. Doris enjoyed playing golf, staying active, and spending time with the many friends she made along the way.
Doris had a lifelong love of the arts and a remarkable creative spirit. She enjoyed drawing, painting, singing, and playing the piano and guitar, and could often be heard humming a tune as she went about her day. She was also a talented seamstress and loved crocheting, often creating handmade gifts for family and friends. Easygoing and accepting of others, Doris was known for her warmth, kindness, and willingness to help, making her a cherished friend to many.
Her greatest legacy lives on in the generations of family she nurtured and the countless lives she touched through her kindness, generosity, and love.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy Richards; her sisters, Evelyn Dysle and Barbara Bussard; and her brother, Donald Dysle.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Jean (Patrick) Green, Cecilia Murphey, and Catherine Richards; her sons, Tom (Suzanne) Richards, Bruce (Mary) Richards, Fred (Cathy) Richards, and Ray (Linda) Richards; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her greatest legacy lives on in the generations of family she nurtured and the countless lives she touched through her kindness, generosity, and love.
