DOROTHEA M. "JAKE" SERRA

Dorothea M. "Jake" Serra, 93, of Canton, Ohio, passed away on April 19, 2024, in the comfort of her home. She was born in Canton, Ohio on April 6, 1931 to the late Helen and Carl Liebig. Also preceded in death by her two sisters and brother-in-law, Helen (Clifford) Miller and Jeanne Liebig.

After being the third girl and no boys in the family, Carl nicknamed her his "little Jakie". Most of her friends only knew her by the name "Jake".

She graduated from Canton Lincoln High School. She married Jacques D. Serra on October 18, 1952. After his untimely death in 1969, she went back to work as a supervisor for the Stark County Welfare Department.

She was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church and belonged to the Altar & Rosary Society and was a baker for the Bereavement Committee.

She is survived by her children, Cathy (Mike) Taylor, and Tom (Debbie) Serra. Her oldest son, David M. Serra, passed away in January, 2018. Also survived by her grandchildren, Jaclyn (Bryan) Hursh and Chris (Cassie) Taylor; great-grandchildren, Mason Conrad, Cayden and Brantley Hursh, Beverley Taylor, and newborn baby boy Taylor; her niece, Kelly (Dan) Marshall; her nephew, Jeff Miller and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 4940 Tuscarawas St W, Canton, OH 44708, on Monday, April 29, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Kevin Peters, Celebrant. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10:00-11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service, at the Church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Massillon.
