Sergeant Major Edward Miller, retired, of the United States Army, was called home to heaven Tuesday 16 January 2024, while surrounded by his children and family. He was born in Canton, Ohio on 5 March 1937 and later enlisted in the Army in 1954. Sergeant Miller served honorably for thirty-three years in the Army. His service included many units in the United States and overseas, where he supported Major Combat Operations to include the Korean War and when recalled to Active Service, the Gulf War. His efforts to defend freedom and the United States of America earned him the Distinguished Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal Non-Combatant and Army Commendation Medal amongst others.
   
  
Sergeant Miller filled many roles including husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Judith Miller and his five children, Marie and Paul Burfield, Edward and Jennifer Miller, Patrick and Julie Miller, Suzanne and Steven Dilley and Doug Miller, who preceded him. In addition, his stepchildren, Jennifer Lawton, Christine Lombardo, Diane Makruski, Nancy Carey and Lee Ann Moore. 'Snooky' is also survived by his brother, Howard Miller and spouse Jan and sister Marilyn Steenrod and spouse Denny. Sergeant Miller or 'Papa Ed' to his grandchildren, leaves behind 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 grandson that preceded him.
   
  
Family and friends are welcome for visitation, Friday, January 19, 2024 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Lamiell Funeral Home, 1353 Cleveland Avenue, NW, Canton. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 10:00 AM, Little Flower Catholic Church, 2040 Diamond Street, NE, Canton. Reverend Monsignor Lewis Gaetano will serve as celebrant. Interment will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 9:15 AM.
   
  
Sergeant Miller, Dad, Papa Ed, Snooky, will be greatly missed. Psalm 91 the 'Soldiers Psalm' will Shepard you home.
