Eleanor M. (Hoffman) Pennell

Eleanor M. (Hoffman) Pennell, comforted by the love and support of family and friends passed away Monday, September 17, 2018, at home nine days following her 101st birthday. A life time member of the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist, Eleanor served the parish for more than 25 years, first as a school volunteer, then as secretary to the principal and later secretary to the Director of Religious Education. She volunteered well in to her nineties at House of Loreto in Canton and, after moving to Kent, at Kent Social Services. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Pennell, her mother, Elsie Hoffman (nee Goellnitz); father, Charles David Hoffman, and siblings, Elsie and John. Survived by daughters, Judy Pennell Kirman, Claire (Mark) Pennell Hall; grandson Mark (Deanna) Hall and great-grandsons DJM, Dylan, Josh and Matteo, as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. The family wishes to thank the staff of Summa Hospice for their dedicated care and support, especially Cathy Hughes, R.N. Friends may call Friday from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist with the Very Reverend John Sheridan, STL-Rector as celebrant. Burial in Saint John Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to either National Wildlife Federation or Habitat for Humanity.
