Emmett R. "Frenchy" Mejean Sr., age 88, passed away Saturday after a long illness. Born in Marstellar, Pennsylvania, he had lived in Canton most of life and had retired from W.G. Lockhart in Akron. Frenchy was a member of the Canton Baptist Temple, Jolly Sixties which he had been their bus driver and Operating Engineers Local 18. During World War II he lived in France with his family and was part of the French Resistance. After the war he served in the United States Air Force. Survived by his wife of 69 years, LaVerne Mejean, son, Emmett (Stephanie) Mejean Jr. of Canton, grandchildren, Joette George of Gainesville, Virginia and Emmett (Brittany) Mejean III of Canton, four great-grandchildren and a sister, Antoinette Miday of Canton. The family would like to thank the staff at Bethany Nursing Home for their care. Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Lamiell Funeral Home with Pastor Delaney Young officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Wednesday from 12-1 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canton Baptist Temple Forever Young Bus Ministry.
