Fr. David Carl Menegay, age 73, died Friday after a short illness. He was born in Canton and lived in the Northeast Ohio and Western Pennsylvania most of his life. Father was a 1961 graduate of Central Catholic High School, entered the Christian Brothers' Novitiate on June 15, 1961, earned a BA in History from LaSalle College (1966), earned a MA in European History from Villanova University (1970), MSEd in Secondary School Administration from Duquesne University (1975), entered Mount Saint Mary Seminary in Emmitsburg, Pennsylvania (1984) where he earned a Mdiv in Theology (1987) and MA in Church History (1988). He had served as a teacher at LaSalle College High School – Philadelphia (1966-68), teacher/prefect at Saint Gabriel's Hall - Audubon, Pennsylvania (1968-70), teacher/vice principal at Central Catholic High School – Pittsburgh (1970-77) teacher at Saint John College High School – Washington, DC (1978-84), ordained to the Priesthood on May 21, 1988 by Bishop Wuerl, served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Elizabeth Parish – Pleasant Hills, Pennsylvania (1988-92) and Saint Vitus Parish – New Castle (1992-93), Principal at Quigley Catholic High School – Baden, Pennsylvania (1993-2005), Chaplain for the Sisters of Saint Joseph – Baden, Pennsylvania (1993-97), 1989 became a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Parochial Vicar at Saint Paul Parish – North Canton (2005-08), Pastor of Saint Louis Parish – Louisville (August 4, 2008-October 1, 2011) and was currently serving as the Chaplain for the Congregation of the Divine Spirit/House of Loreto – Canton. Survived by his two brothers and sisters-in-law, Philip and Barbara Menegay and James and Mary Menegay all of Canton and many cousins. Preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Helen (Schiltz) Menegay. Family and friends will meet on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Saint Paul Catholic Church in North Canton with Monsignor James Clarke as celebrant. Burial will be in Saint John Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the House of Loreto.
