Freda Kathrin Smith, age 51, passed away peacefully on Monday with her family by her side. She fought with courage and strength till the end. Freda was a life resident of Canton, 1982 graduate of Canton South High School and had worked at Haines and Company for 31 years. She was a member of Saint Mary Catholic Church (Canton) and the Catholic Singles Club. Her passions in life were her family, decorating her home and garage sales. Freda always enjoyed spending time with her niece and nephews. Freda would take them out to eat for their birthdays. She would take them anywhere they were interested in going. Freda also enjoyed going to dinner with her friends. Survived by her mother, Helen (Kalil) Smith, sisters, Tammy (Don) Koller, Helen "Toni" (Nick) Justice and Theresa (Michael) Barbuto, beloved niece and several beloved nephews. Preceded in death by her father, O'Neil Smith and grandparents, Charles and Freda Kalil. The family would like to thank Dr. Norman Rafique of Tri-County Hematology and Oncology for the compassion and care that he has provided through the years and the staff of Harbor Light Hospice for their compassionate care. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Saint Mary Catholic Church (Canton) with Father Benson Okpara as celebrant. Burial will be in Saint John Cemetery. Friends may call Thursday from 5-7 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Harbor Light Hospice.
