GENE W. COOKSON

On May 7, 2024, Gene W. Cookson, with his family by his side, slipped away quietly on his journey home. He was 92. Born in Canton, Ohio on December 22, 1931, he was the son of the late Bernard and Lucille (Rittersbaugh) Cookson. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his son, Richard Cookson; grandson, James Enos; and sons-in-law, Tim Enos and Randy Lyons.

Gene, the most patient man ever, was humble and generous. Wherever Gene went, he left footprints of kindness and love, courage and inspiration, joy and faith. Gene served in the United States Air Force in El Paso, Texas. When he returned home, he worked at the Hoover Company where he retired after 47 years. He had a passion for working on cars and attending car shows. He loved having cookouts and spending time with his family. One of his greatest joys was being with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wonderful wife of 70 loving years, LaVonne Cookson; daughters, Patty Enos, Dianna (Greg) Conrad, Joan Lyons, Linda (Warren) Wright, and Stephanie (Dan) Creighton; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and brother, Richard Cookson.
