George W. Seanor

Born February 22, 1923, in Darlington, Pennsylvania to the late Mary McGaffick Seanor and John George Seanor. In 1941 he moved to Canton with his family and attended The Ohio State University graduating with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was a licensed professional engineer in the states of Ohio and Pennsylvania. He was a charter member of the Northminister Presbyterian Church in North Canton.

He served as president of the Gibbons-Grable Company. Many Canton landmarks were constructed during his leadership; including the Cultural Center, the Natatorium, the downtown Newmarket development project which included the United Bank Building, the Hilton Hotel and Parking Garage. Other construction projects included major additions to Mercy and Aultman hospitals, St Thomas Aquinas High School, Hoover High School (original), Walsh University Student Union and Dormitories, Timken Research Addition, Diebold Research Facility and the Hoover Company Industrial Park Manufacturing Facility and extensive work at the Timken Canton and Gambrinus plants.

He was active in the community and served as a director of Walsh University, Timken Mercy Medical Center, The Harter Bank and Trust Company, The Canton Chamber of Commerce, The United Way of Central Stark County and the Ohio Contractors Association. He was a member of the American Legion post #44.

He was past president of the United Way of Central Stark County, Buckeye Council of Boy Scouts of America, The Canton Club, the Canton Regional Society of Professional Engineers, the Stark County Construction Council and the Atwood Yacht Club.

He was a recipient of the Boy Scouts of America Silver Beaver Award, the Engineers Award for Distinguished Service by the Canton Regional Society of Professional Engineers and accepted the Canton Chamber Award of Appreciation for the Gibbons Grable Company for the Newmarket Development project.

He served in World War Il as a fighter pilot completing 34 missions with the Eighth Air Force 356th Fighter Group in Europe and continued flying for many decades.

He is survived by his, daughter and son-n-law Pam and Jim Underwood of Chagrin Falls, son George D Seanor and daughter-in-law Pat of Canton, son-in-law Steve Roberts of Louisville, granddaughter Julia Roberts Moomaw and Derek of Denver and grandson Michael Roberts of Seattle, sister-in-law, Sheila Farmer and her husband Richard Farmer of Clinton, Tom, Sandy of Canton, Jeff of Lakewood and Tim Turner of Fairfax, nieces and nephews Karen Wurzel of Mexico, Ed and Maureen Schirack of Canal Fulton, Denise and Kevin Barry of Massachusetts, Cindy and Mark Samolczyk of Canton, Frank and Becky Schirack of Florida, Shelle and Rick Saurez of Florida, Kristen and Dave Bair of Alliance and Jennifer and Mattias Ollsen of Cleveland.

He was preceded in death by his wife Ann Seanor, daughter Sue Seanor Roberts, sister Ann Seanor Dennis and brother-in-law Harry S. Dennis, sister-in-law Mary Gibbons, sister-in-law Jane Schirack and brother-in-law Frank Schirack.

Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, March 6, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Lamiell Funeral Home, Canton. The service for George will be Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 10:00 AM, Northminister Presbyterian Church, North Canton. Pastor Kenneth Krause will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Massillon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Walsh University Ann and George Seanor Scholarship Fund.
