Gertrude D. (Gill) Thouvenin, age 101, died Tuesday after a short illness. She was a life resident of the Canton and a 1933 graduate of Saint John High School. Gertrude was a member of Saint Peter Catholic Church and former member of St. Peter's Ladies Guild and the Columbus Women's Club. She has been a 4-H advisor for over 50 years and was an active gardener competing in the Stark County Fair. Preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Thouvenin, son, Dan Thouvenin, daughter, Margaret Ann Thouvenin, sisters, Coletta Kiko and Anna Mae Eckroate and brothers, Ralph, Carl, Raymond, Walter and William Gill. Survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy Berg of Navarre, Jean and David Agnes of Canton, Marian and Michael Appel of Sagamore Hills and Karen and David Ray of Paris, Ohio, sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence Jr. and Vivien Thouvenin of Alliance, Joseph Thouvenin and Cheryl Thouvenin of Canton, 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren, sister, Mary Catherine Michel of Louisville and sisters-in-law, Mary Gill of Wooster and Mary Margaret Gill of Canton. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church with Father Edward Beneleit as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saint Peter Catholic Church.
