Harold Blain Hoskinson (Hal), passed away July 22, 2022, with his family by his side in Canton, Ohio.
Born December 19, 1928, in Sardis, Ohio, Hal graduated from Timken Vocational High School in 1946. After joining the Army and serving in the Korean War from 1950-1953, Hal worked at several plants, including the former Republic Steel, before retiring as a Shop Controller for Babcock & Wilcox in Barberton.
While serving as the commander of VFW Post #3747 for 20 years, he was an Honor Guard member, as well as Chairman of the Board for the Stark County Veteran Service Commission for 20 years. He was also a member of the American Legion and the Eagles. In 2010, Hal was recognized for his service to veterans when he was selected as Co-Veteran of the Year for the Greater Canton Veterans Council. When chosen, he promised "I will always help a veteran in any way I can".
An avid Ohio sports fan, he especially enjoyed watching The Ohio State Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians/Guardians, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Canton/Akron Indians.
Hal is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Sally (Manly) Hoskinson, daughters Sharon (Gary) Jones of Canton, Ohio, Tina (Randall) McCallum of Painesville, Ohio, and Tammie (Robert) Thomas of Fredricksburg, Virginia, grandchildren Ashley and Kyle, Acacia and Gabrielle, and Jessica and Sarah, great-grandchildren Cameran and Lila, Campbell and Elliot, Silas and Lillian, and Myles and Spencer.
Hal was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn and Roberta (Myers) Hoskinson, and his siblings Bernard Hoskinson, Anna May Johnson, and Donna Jean Clark.
Service will be Friday at 1 p.m. in the Lamiell Funeral Home with Fr. Edward Beneleit officiating. Burial with military honors will be on Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.
