Herbert Morello, age 92, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026. Born on July 24, 1933, he lived a remarkable life defined by family, service, innovation, athletic achievement, and dedication to his community.
A proud U.S. Army Korean War veteran, Herbert honorably served his country after being inducted into military service. Following his service, he earned his master’s degree in professional management from Indiana Northern University. He went on to enjoy a distinguished career as a Mechanical Engineer, working for Diebold for 14 years and the Hoover Company for 15 years. An accomplished innovator, he held 16 patents and was instrumental in the design and development of the Automated Teller Machine (ATM), leaving a lasting impact on modern banking technology.
A gifted athlete throughout his life, Herbert excelled in numerous sports and was even scouted by the New York Yankees. His love of athletics continued well into his later years. In recognition of his accomplishments and contributions to the game, he was inducted into the Stark County Amateur Golf Hall of Fame in 2018. He also served as President of the Senior Golf Association, where he enjoyed many years of competition, camaraderie, and friendship.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Lucille Morello, who passed away in 2017; and his son, Joseph Morello, who passed away in 2015.
He is survived by his loving children: Mary (Frank) Manello, Lucy (Eric) Eisenmann, Martin (Chrissy Johnson) Morello, and Herbert J. Morello. He was a proud grandfather to Maria Cicciarelli, Lucia Nelson, Robbie and Aaron Cook, and Dominick Morello. He was also blessed with two great-grandchildren, Joakeim and Moses Cicciarelli.
Herbert will be remembered for his intelligence, athletic ability, leadership, dedication to family, and the kindness and wisdom he shared with all who knew him. His legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the family he loved so deeply.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 9, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Lamiell Funeral Home, Canton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 10, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., at Guardian Angels Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Canton. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Massillon.
