Howard "Whimpy" McKean was born on 1-1-35 in Ashtabula, Ohio and died exactly 82 years later. His parents were Howard and Ellen (Hewitt) McKean. His aunt and uncle Hazel and Dick Ware raised him until he enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he honorably served in the Korean Conflict. Following discharge, he moved with his late wife, Phyllis (Nappi) McKean to take a job as a driver with Sugardale where he worked until he retired. He was a founding member of the American Sportsman Club in East Canton and a proud member of the Louisville Aerie of the Eagles. Whimpy, to paraphrase Augusten Burroughs, was a man composed entirely of flaws stitched together with good intentions. He understood the value of hard work, of hospitality, and of a good meal. He leaves behind a daughter, Theresa Baxter, her husband, Richard; and a granddaughter, Maya, who loves him greatly. He also leaves a legions of nieces, nephews, neighborhood kids, friends and drinking buddies. There are no strangers in his home. He hated flowers at funerals and funerals in general. If you are so inclined, please join us at Sanctuary Church of God 6535 Maplebrook NE, East Canton on Saturday January 14th, 2017 at noon for a meal in his memory. Bring stories.
