James R. Bailis, Sr.

James Richard Bailis, Sr., age 90, born June 3, 1936 in Massillon, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home, on September 18, 2026.

Jim is survived by his loving children, James R. Bailis, Jr. (Carrie) and Tawnia Kitson; grandchildren, Samuel Kitson (Emily) and Sydnie Kitson; great-grandchildren, Vivian Eileen and Charlotte Rose Kitson; as well as many stepchildren, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.. Jim is also survived by his loving companion, Eileen.

Jim is preceded in death by his loving wife, Alma (Morrone) Bailis; parents, George and Dorothy Bailis; sisters, Carol Burley, MaryLou Demeo, and Nora Lee Bailis (age 2).

Jim was a 1955 graduate of Canton McKinley Hight School. He retired from East Ohio Gas Company, was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, and the Stark County Browns Backers, where he watched Sunday games with family and friends. He was a member of the North Canton Eagles, the NRA, and a huge supporter of Tunnels to Towers. He loved Las Vegas and playing Bocce with his son. One of his favorite sayings was, “It is what it is.”

He loved his family. Life is measured by the people it touches and he touch so many. He will be forever in our hearts and so very missed.

The family will receive guests on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Lamiell Funeral Home, Canton from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A Graveside Service will take place on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 11:00 am, at Forest Hill Cemetery, Canton. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date..
