James W. Freeland, age 81, of Canton, died Saturday after a short illness. Born in Spencer, West Virginia he had lived in Stark County most of his life and was retired from Teledyne Monarch Rubber Company. Survived by his partner of over 20 years, Renee Piatt, two daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy Daniska of Louisville and Linda and Dorman Ixos of Canton, three grandchildren, Criss Moon, Ricky Ledford Jr. and Jessica Ledford and a great-granddaughter, Isabella Rose. Preceded in death by three sisters, Bell Murphy, Mary Munson and Laura Mae Smith, brother, Thurman Freeland and former wife, Mardell Freeland. Graveside service will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Sunset Hills Memory Gardens with Pastor Gary Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Stark County Humane Society.
