James Michael Niamtu passed away on Sunday, August 8, 2021 surrounded by his family, following a stoic and courageous battle with cancer.
Jim attended Lehman High School, received his Bachelor's degree from Kent State University where he graduated Cum Laude and obtained his Masters of Arts In Education from Malone University. Jim taught Social Studies at Towpath Trail High School in Akron, Ohio. He loved bringing history alive for his students. Jim was a scholar and an authority of the Civil War, the Spanish American War and World Wars I and II.
He was a lifelong super-fan of Pittsburgh Steelers football and an avid reader. Born on January 4, 1958, Jim was preceded in death by his mother, Elsie Sholl Niamtu. He is survived by his father (World War II veteran), Joseph Niamtu, Jr., brother, Dr. Joseph (April) Niamtu, III, sisters Marilyn (Dennis) Holbrook, Lisa (Scott) Waite, the loves of his life and faithful caretakers, daughters Rebecca Niamtu and Susanna (Jeremy) Linquist, and grandchildren Emily Finsel, Jack and Ella Linquist, along with loving nephews, niece and cousins.
Jim was a gentle soul and a wonderfully unique human being, with a memorable sense of humor. Jim will continue to live on in our hearts and memories until we are again reunited.

A private graveside service will take place for family members at North Lawn Cemetery, in Canton. Arrangements are being handled by Lamiell Funeral Home in Canton.
