James F. "Jim" Weber, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, coach and friend passed away on December 7, 2021. He was 87.
A graduate of Canton Central Catholic High School and the University of Notre Dame, he worked at The Repository for 42 years. He served as a news and sports reporter, copy editor, city editor and editor-at-large while raising four kids with his wife Nancy, the same girl whose pigtails he pulled in second grade. He was a wonderful father who set high expectations for his kids, and did everything he could to help them reach them. Grandchildren brought a new opportunity for him to teach and inspire.
Jim's prolific storytelling, love of puns, easy laugh and ability to turn every situation into an opportunity to help will be missed. He loved reading, sports, taking care of his house and yard, and, most of all, keeping up with his kids and grandkids. Jim and Nancy spent the last 26 years attending their grandkids' sporting events, plays, concerts and birthday parties…and then telling everyone they knew about the experiences.
Jim is survived by Nancy (nee Triner), his wife of 62 years; daughter Julie McEwan (Tom); son Tim (Greta); daughter Amy Dice (Ken); son Kurt (Stephanie); adored grandchildren: Anna, Catie, Erika, Kalyn, Kenny, Kyle, Lyndsey, Nathan, Rachel and Ryan; four great-grandchildren; and his sister Catherine (Geoffrey) Vaughan. He was preceded in death by his parents Catherine and Gene Weber, and his brother Gene.
Friends may call Friday from 4-6 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Saint Joan of Arc Catholic Church with Father Brian Cline as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages a contribution in memory of Jim Weber to Central Catholic High School's Tuition Assistance Program. Please send your donation to Central Catholic High School, 4824 Tuscarawas St. W, Canton, OH 44708.
