Jarl Vernon Plottner

July 31, 1929 — November 6, 2021

Jarl Vernon Plottner died November 6, 2021, in Alliance, Ohio. He was born July 31, 1929, in Canton, the son of Clyde and Elizabeth (Gosiewski) Plottner. Jerry, as he was known as an adult, lived most of his life in Canton. He graduated from Middlebrook High School in 1947 and worked a series of odd jobs, including hauling garbage with his father, setting bowling pins, and working in a multicolored-marshmallow plant before serving with the U.S. Army in Korea in 1951-52. He helped his father build several houses constructed during the 1950s, and in 1962 Jerry borrowed money to purchase a compactor truck and expand the hauling business. Over the next two decades he grew it into a large and successful waste management operation. In 1958 he married Patricia Leib, and together they had four children and three grandchildren. Jerry's many passions included photography, opera and classical music, astronomy, golf, hard work, a firm handshake, a sip of good whiskey, and Reese's Pieces candy. He is survived by his sons Kevin and Sean, daughters Mary Pat and Molly, grandchildren Charlie, Ben, and Emily, and brother David. Preceded in death by his wife and siblings Clyde Jr., Marvin, and Dorthy. Services were private.
