JERRY ROBERT (JR) JOHNSON

Jerry Robert (JR) Johnson died in Bozeman, Montana on July 25th, 2024 at the age of 82. He is survived by his loving family members including his wife Jennifer Jellison, four sons, Matthew, David, Jared, and Andy, three step children, William, Maggie, and Andrew, and thirteen grandchildren. His memory will live on in each of them.

JR was born on April 9th, 1942. He grew up working on his family farm, tending livestock, and reading the classics. JR enlisted in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 17 and served a full contract. JR earned a Bachelors from Colorado State University and a Masters degree from the University of Chicago and began his career. In the 1990's he began producing Jack Hanna's Animal Adventures and began his world travels. His career continued to evolve in 2011 when he opened For Paws' Blue Cross Animal Clinic in Canton, Ohio with his wife.

JR had a strong love of animals and could easily be spotted in his jeep with a dog at his side. His gentle nature, quick smile, and authentic interest in those around him made him fiercely loved by his community. JR was always quick with witticism and the first person to show up to help.

A cowboy through and through, JR fought heart and renal failure for four years. As Winston Churchill once said, "If you're going through hell. Keep going." JR fought every battle, supported his family, and made memories until his final days. His legacy will live on in his family and his church.

Calling hours for JR will be held at Lamiell Funeral Home on Thursday, August 1 from 4pm-7pm and the funeral held at Basilica of Saint John the Baptist on Friday, August 2 at 10:30am.
