Joan E. Wetmore passed away peacefully on June 1, 2018 at Windsor Medical Center. Born October 22, 1922 in Canton, she grew up in Pittsburgh but returned to Canton in 1941. A graduate of St Benedict's Academy, she attended Canton Actual Business School and worked at Hall Kistler & Co. before marrying Calvin Wetmore and starting her family. Joan was a long time member of the Canton Woman's Club and a charter member of the Arboretum and San Souci Garden Clubs as well as Timken-Mercy Service League. She was also a member of St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Imp, First Ladies Library, McKinley Museum Auxiliary, Canton Preservation Society and the Walsh Women's Auxiliary. Joan was a sharp bridge player and enjoyed playing in numerous bridge groups.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Verna (Ungaschick) and Charles Schatzman; husband Calvin Bierce Wetmore and her son John. She is survived by her daughter Carol of Chicago; David (Patty) of Hilton Head Island, Lisa (Lee) of Pittsburgh and Douglas (Cathy) of Short Hills, N.J; daughter-in-law Kathy (Smith) Wetmore; grandchildren Molly (Kai) Khammonivong, Emily (Sean) Mahoney, Ann (Robert) Pukansky, Katie (Anthony) Corsi, John Wetmore Jr, Jennifer Wetmore, Douglas Locasto, Katherine (Daniel) Todd, Meredith Locasto, Natalie and Calvin Wetmore and twelve great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be Friday from 5-7 pm at Lamiell Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with Father Donald King as celebrant. Private burial will be in St Peter's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joan's name can be made to St Michael the Archangel Catholic Church at 3430 St Michael Blvd NW, Canton, OH 44718 or Walsh University, 2020 East Maple Street, North Canton, OH 44720. The family thanks the staff of Windsor Medical Center for their compassionate and skilled care provided to Joan.
