John Calvin "Jack" Bennett, age 93, died Sunday after an extended illness. He was born on September 8, 1923 to Zaida (Glasstetter) and Charles Bennett in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Jack attended schools in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio graduating in 1942 from McKinley High School. He was employed at Republic Steel until entering the Army in 1944. While in the Army, he was the Sergeant in charge of the Officer's Mess in Phoenix, Arizona and the message center in Rubert, Idaho. Jack married Joan Louise Ballou at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church on August 18, 1945. He was employed as a salesman at Sterling Bakery, R & J Furniture, and Sears after retiring he was the editor and publisher of the sports newsletter, "Yesterdays". Preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Joan, parents, grandson and an infant sister. Survived by a son, Michael (Carole) Bennett of Magnolia, daughters, Joan (Gordon) Deranick if Indianapolis, Indiana and Carole (Tom) Hans of Atwater, eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Lamiell Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Smith officiating. Entombment will be in the Sunset Hills Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
