John Dominic Botti died Sunday March 7, 2021. He was born and raised in Somerville, New Jersey. He was drafted in to the Navy during World War II for one and a half year and used the GI Bill for schooling. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania undergraduate school Phi Beta Kapa and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1952 second in his class. John Botti did his internship at Philadelphia General Hospital, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in addition, to doing residency in surgery at Mayo Clinic and four years of fellowship. John earned his Masters of Surgery at University of Minnesota simultaneously. After completing his residency, he met and married Elizabeth Ann Thompson, registered nurse. They settled in Canton, Ohio in 1957. John Botti practiced at Mercy Medical Center for 42 years from 1957-1998. He was Chief of Surgery three terms. He introduced bariatric and laparoscopic surgery. John was President of the Staff at Mercy Medical Center for three terms and Director of Surgery two terms. John Botti was Treasurer of Medical Staff for one term. He was a member of the American College of Surgeons for 42 years and Ohio Chapter of American College of Surgeons. John was a member of the College of Gastroenterology for 38 years. John Botti was inducted in to the Saint Luke Society in 1996. He received the Lifetime Achievement Award of Stark County in 2014. He was a retired Associate Professor of Surgery at Northeastern Ohio College of Medicine. John Botti preceded in death by his devoted wife Elizabeth in 2017. Leaves five children; daughters Margaret Botti of New York City/Canton, Catherine (Timothy) Brown of North Canton; sons John (Karen) Botti of Delaware, Ohio, Thomas (Cecelia) Botti of Ft. Pierce, Florida and Peter (Kristine) Botti of North Canton, Ohio; eight grandchildren. Friends may call Wednesday (TONIGHT) from 5-7 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist with the Very Reverend John Sheridan, STL-Rector as celebrant. Burial in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Mercy Development Foundation.
