Karen Scheiller Bogdan, 73, passed away May 5, 2018, her body finally losing its fight against a multitude of debilitating diseases. Despite constant pain, she was a force. She made marvelous award winning fabric art depicting the colors and vibrancy of the natural world.
She wanted to be remembered as "one who always tried her best." And not just with art; she was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and aunt. She fell days short of her 50th wedding anniversary with husband Bill. Her house was always enlivened with pets including her beloved cats, Pebbles and Nickle.
A graduate of Ellet High School and The University of Akron, she briefly taught art at Roosevelt Elementary in Springfield Township. Later she became a Certified Master Florist, working at Sharon's Flower Basket in Akron's North Hill. She was a past president of the "Come Latelies" in Greenville South Carolina before returning to Ohio. It was in Canton that she came to the art world as an outlet for her lifelong artistic sewing talents.
She is preceded in death by parents, John Clyde and Catherine (Jacobs) Scheiller, and survived by husband William Martin Bogdan, daughter Kristina Pauline Julius (Bruce), son Keith David Bogdan and sister Joy Dickerhoof (Dean) of Golden Colorado. She will also be very much missed by Koscik and Brown families, Cousin Gerry McElliot, and best friend, Nancy Wiles.
The family would like to thank the kind care offered at Mercy Medical Hospice and the ICU.
Karen was a member of The Basilica of Saint John the Baptist in Canton, where she had once worked in the rectory, and where a Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday at 10 a.m. with The Very Reverend John E. Sheridan, STL, Rector as celebrant. Friends will be received at Lamiell Funeral Home, 1353 Cleveland Ave NW, Canton on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. In lieu of flowers Karen wanted donations to be offered to The Basilica of Saint John the Baptist, 627 McKinley Ave NW, Canton, OH 44703.
