KATHLEEN A. ESSIK

Kathleen A. Essik, 75, of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, passed away December 19, 2024, at Akron City Hospital. She was born December 20, 1948, in Staten Island, New York to her late parents, George and Catherine (Snow) Essik.

Kathleen is survived by her lifelong companion Paul J. Jonuska, as well as her brother Richard Essik, sister-in law Trudy Essik, sister Judith Grisez, brother-in-law Frank Grisez, longtime best friend Georgie Duncan (who named Kathleen as godmother to her daughter), and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews whom she loved so much.

Kathleen was an RN and took extraordinary pride in providing compassionate care and made a point of connecting with each patient. She was a 1966 graduate of Central Catholic High School and graduated from St. Thomas Hospital School of Nursing in December of 1975 and went on to work as an RN at Akron City Hospital. Kathy volunteered for VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) in West Virginia, an organization that aimed to "strengthen and supplement efforts to eliminate and alleviate poverty." In her later career, Kathleen worked as a nurse at the Oriana House in Akron, helping countless people battling addiction. She was a wonderful friend to many, had a heart of Gold, and always present for a friend in need. She enjoyed time spent with her family and loved animals.

Family will receive guests at Lamiell Funeral Home, 1353 Cleveland Avenue, NW, Canton, on Saturday, December 28, 2024, from 10:00 to 11:00 am. The service for Kathleen will follow at 11:00 am. Monsignor Lewis Gaetano will serve as officiant.

The family requests that any memorial contributions be made to Paws and Prayers Pet Rescue in Cuyahoga Falls or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (https://www.bcrf.org/) in lieu of flowers.
