Kathryn (Kay Schubach) O'Connor passed away Thursday, May 6, 2021 at the Windsor Medical Center. She was born May 11, 1934 to Joseph Schubach and Mary Elizabeth McCarthy in Canton, OH.
Kay attended Bell Stone Grade School and graduated from Lehman High School in 1952. She attended Denison University. Kay married Leo James "Jim" O'Connor, Jr. in 1958. She was a member of the Basilica of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Canton, the Walsh Women's Committee, Line and Design Garden Club, and the Junior League of Canton. She spent many years attending the North Canton YMCA, St. Thomas Acquinas, and Congress Lake Country Club.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Leo James "Jim" O'Connor, Jr. She is survived by her brothers: John Schubach (Linda) of Canton, OH and Dr. William Schubach (Lura) of Seattle, WA; her children: Karen O'Connor of Duxbury, MA, L.J. O'Connor, III (Valeria), and Michael O'Connor (Barbara), both of Canton, OH; her grandchildren: Kathryn Lally (Bob) of Weymouth, MA, Alyson Metscher of New York City, NY, Paul Metscher, Esq. of Somerville, MA, Kyle and Colin O'Connor of Canton, OH, Michael Jr., Alexandra, and Christopher O'Connor of Canton, OH; and her great-granddaughter: Meredith Lally of Weymouth, MA.
Kay had many beloved friends with whom she cultivated lifelong relationships. Between entertaining at her home on Frazier Avenue with her husband Jim, the Junior League of Canton, golfing and swimming at the Congress Lake Club, and consorting with fellow St. Thomas Aquinas parents, Kay cherished the many memories made with family and friends. Friendly and approachable to everyone, Kay O'Connor never met a stranger, and her life was enriched by her long-lasting and fulfilling friendships.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, May 13th, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. in the Basilica of St. John the Baptist with the Very Rev. John Sheridan, STL-Rector as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Walsh Women's Committee or the Basilica of St. John the Baptist.
