On Wednesday morning, March 30, 2022, La Verne Maude Jones went home peacefully in her
sleep to be with God. La Verne "Bunny" was born January 27, 1952, in Cleveland, Ohio, to
Grace Felecia Jones and Edward "Bud" Jones. The middle child to three other siblings, Alvin
Jones (Mosi O. Paki), Edward Lee "Dog" Jones, and Beverly Janise Jones.
She left for college in 1971, attended Kent State University, where she received her bachelor's
degree. Then graduated from Case Western Reserve University, earning her Master's. She later
moved to Canton, Ohio, in 1981 to pursue a career in social work.
She worked for the non-profit CommQuest Services (formerly Community Services) for over a
decade as an MSSA, LISW Clinical Social Worker helping clients with mental health and
addiction before retiring in August 2021. When she wasn't working, she enjoyed her time with
her daughters, Briana and Brandi Jones-Hamby, watching her favorite crime shows and football
(Browns), and researching her family lineage.
La Verne is preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Edward Jones, her brother Ed "Dog,"
sister Beverly, her grandmother Maude "Tut" Strozier, and her great aunt Nellie Mae Gillespie.
La Verne is survived by her daughters Briana and Brandi, beloved by her brother Mosi and his
wife Ella, aunt Eva Lois McCaleb, her cousins David, Lena "Snook," Selena, and Felicia.
Nephews and nieces who will forever love and miss their aunt Bunny—Jahi O. (David), Lou
Meecha, Aashia, Tiffany, Tisha to name a few. Her friends Eva, Debbie, and many more.
