With heavy hearts, we say goodbye to LaVonne J. Cookson, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She was 89. Born in Canton, Ohio on June 1, 1935 to Eugene and Mary (Kelley) Tyler, LaVonne is now reunited with her parents; her husband, Gene Cookson; son, Richard Cookson; grandson, James Enos; sons-in-law, Tim Enos and Randy Lyons; four sisters and five brothers.
LaVonne kept God at the center of her life, building a solid foundation in her marriage, raising her children, and exemplifying the true meaning of generosity. She was a member of the Alter Rosary Society at St. Joan of Arc and Sacred Heart of Mary in Harrisburg. She enjoyed cooking, baking, singing, and bowling on a women's league. She loved ballroom dancing with her brother, Dale at Meyers Lake, roller skating and ice skating in her younger years. She was so proud of her time cooking for the priest at St. Joan of Arc. LaVonne had a passion for birds and enjoyed sitting and watching them. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and seeing everyone happy. She brought joy and peace to everyone around her.
She will lovingly be remembered by daughters, Patty Enos, Dianna (Greg) Conrad, Joan Lyons, Linda (Warren) Wright, and Stephanie (Dan) Creighton; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Richard "Dick" Cookson; and sister-in-law, Mary Tyler.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, Lamiell Funeral Home, Canton. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 11:00 AM, St. Joan of Arc Guardian Angels Parish, Canton. Father Edward Beneleit will serve as celebrant.
