June 2, 1935 – April 11, 2022
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our mother, Margaret M. Terembes. Peg was born on June 2, 1935, the only child of Audrey A. (Freed) and Henry J. Schroll, Jr. During "the war years," she treasured her idyllic childhood on the family farm in Ruffs Dale, PA, where she attended elementary school and cultivated a penchant for Pittsburgh sports. She was a proud graduate of Hurst High School where she would later return to carry on the family tradition as a teacher.
Peg attended Waynesburg College in PA, on scholarship, majoring in education. A random evening intramural volleyball game set Peg on a new course, for it was in that gymnasium that she met George, the love of her life. After graduation and marriage, Peg taught English and literature for one school year at her alma mater until she and George set off to follow his teaching and coaching aspirations at Canton McKinley High School.
After moving to Canton, Peg was the devoted mother to her daughters, Mary Lee, and, later, Karen. She took an active role in our chosen activities while teaching piano lessons in our home. Through the course of her life, Peg had many hobbies and interests. She was an active member of the Canton Astronomy Club for many years, read voraciously, loved trips to NYC for our "Broadway Binges," shows at Playhouse Square, and summer symphonies at Blossom.
Peg's greatest joy was being a grandma. Though small in stature, she stood two inches taller every time she entered C.T. Branin Natatorium to cheer on her beloved Katie and Matt as they competed in the state swimming championships. She never missed bands concerts, sporting events, and a multitude of activities in which her grandchildren were involved.
In later years, as her health declined, she and George took a new residence at the Canton Christian Home where she and our father enjoyed three years together under the wonderful care of CCH staff.
Peg is survived by her devoted husband of 64 years, George Terembes, daughters Mary Lee (Brett) Rippl of Westerville and Karen (John) McCarthy of Canton, grandchildren Alexander McCarthy of Bolivar, Ryan McCarthy of Canton, Katherine (Allen) Dukes, and Matthew (Jessica) Rippl, great-grandsons Theodore, Barrett, and Henry Rippl, and extended family , including her special cousin Nancy Kiral of Laguana Hills, CA.
Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, April 19 at 10:30 AM at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Very Reverend John Sheridan, STL as celebrant. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Family and friends may call Tuesday from 9-10 AM at Lamiell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canton Christian Home Benevolent Fund. We respectfully request that masks be worn during visitation and services.
