Marie A. (Switter) Fromholtz, age 78, died Tuesday after a brief illness. Born in Massillon, she was raised in Champion moving to Canton in 1959. She was a 1956 graduate of Champion High School and had worked at Walsh University. Marie was a member of the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist and Saint John's Guild, volunteered at the National First Ladies Library and enjoyed sewing, crafts, gardening, playing cards and book club. Preceded in death by her husband, George Fromholtz, son, Kenneth Fromholtz, parents, Ralph and Cecelia (Clementz) Switter, four sisters and two brothers. Survived by two daughters, Karen (John) Brenneman of North Canton and Joan (Casey) Vanderbeek of Portland, Oregon, two sons, Steve (Betsy) Fromholtz of Hendersonville, North Carolina, and Rodney (Ann) Fromholtz of Phoenix, Oregon, five grandchildren, Joshua and Mariah Huart, Ian Marker and Brianna and Cecelia Vanderbeek, two step-grandchildren, Brian and Bart Brenneman, three sisters and two brothers. Family and friends will meet on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist for a Mass of Christian Burial with The Very Reverend Ronald Klingler as celebrant. Burial in Saint John Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Friends of the Canton Garden Center or the Basilica of Saint John the Baptist.
