Obituary

Marvin Edward House Jr., 78, passed away surrounded by his loving family on October 6, 2026.

Whenever Marv was around, a good time was sure to follow.

Whenever Marv was around, a good time was sure to follow.

Marv was born in Canton, Ohio on June 23, 1948, to Marvin Edward House Sr. (Ed) and Flonnie Dell (Fran) House. He attended Timken Vocational High School where he studied print shop. After graduating in 1967, Marv joined the Air Force. Following a medical discharge, he returned to Canton and began his 36-year career at Seiple Lithograph as a master printer. Marv had a phenomenal eye for color and was sent to Heidelberg, Germany for specialized training on a state-of-the-art multimillion dollar 5-color web printer.

While he excelled in his career, Marv’s greatest achievements came through his roles of husband, father, and grandfather. Marv married the love of his life, Paula, on June 10, 1972. Over the next 54 years, he would tell anyone who asked about buying her engagement ring only three months after their first date. He was an ever-present father in lives of his two children, Kate and Matt (Mouse). Whether it was hitting hundreds of ground balls in the backyard or cooking a big breakfast of eggs and grits for them after finishing a midnight shift, Marv gave generously of his time and talents. He loved being Pop-O to his grandchildren, Sam and Robin and enjoyed wearing a silly hat or sticking Christmas bows to his head to make them laugh.

Marv was certainly a doer. He served proudly as Vice President of the Canton North Avondale baseball association for many years as well as running a number of bowling and golf leagues. He was a skilled handyman and was quick to help friends with carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical projects whenever asked. He loved to fish and some of his best memories came at Martin’s pond with Matt searching for catfish.

Marv was a fierce friend, always willing to lend a hand or give advice to anyone in need. He had a thousand stories and loved to share them with anyone willing to listen. He showed his love and appreciation through his food. If he cooked for you, you knew you were someone special. Marv never followed recipes; he just put together what he thought would taste good.

“

Marv’s greatest achievements came through his roles of husband, father, and grandfather.

Marv was preceded in death by his parents Ed and Fran; aunts Billie (Jay) Hartman and Ada (Jack) Williams; cousin Carolyn Stroupe; sisters-in-law Patricia Muzi and Elizabeth Norris; and brothers-in-law Stan Skora and Wes Norris. He is survived by his devoted wife, Paula; children Kate (Mike) Owen and Matt House; grandchildren Sam and Robin Owen; cousin Midge (Bob) Barress; sisters-in-law Marn Skora and Fran (Phil) Castellaneta; brother-in-law Charles Muzi; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Monday, October 12, 2026, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Lamiell Funeral Home, Canton. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the Servant Catholic Parish, with Monsignor Lewis Gaetano presiding.

May his memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
