Mary Ann Casper, 72, died Thursday at her home after a months-long illness.
She was born May 27, 1954, in Canton, to Barbara (“Jeanie”) and James Casper.
Mary Ann graduated from Glenwood High School and Stark State Technical College. She started her career at Harter Bank and continued through its subsequent mergers with Society Bank and KeyBank, retiring after 40 years. After her mother’s death, she found her true joy working with children, spending seven years at the YMCA, where she provided before- and after-school care primarily at Taft Elementary.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Barbara Jean (“BJ”) Schick; brothers-in-law Michael Tolin and Kevin Briggs; and great-nephew Adam Cutlip.
She is survived by her sisters Canice Tolin of Canton and Jane Briggs of Palmer Lake, Colorado; and a brother-in-law, John Schick of Delaware, Ohio.
She also leaves nine nieces and nephews: David (Kim), Katie (Sean Venosdale), Stephen (Michelle) and Douglas (Erin) Tolin, all of Canton; Patti (Cory) Cutlip of Elizabeth, West Virginia; Jean Ann (Mike) Elefterin of Canton; Barbee (Chris) Hendrix of Delaware, Ohio; Nancie Schick of Canton; and Evan (Mel) Briggs of Kaukauna, Wisconsin.
Mary Ann was a proud great-aunt to 26 great-nieces and great-nephews: Jared, Ryan, Brady, Carter, Lainey, Megan, Tyler, Cassidy, Riley, Nathan, Connor, Gavin, William, Aliyah, James, Henry, Phillip, Camden, Hannah, Sophie, Max, Margaux, Nadiea, Aarika, Adrianna and Elliott; and a great-great-aunt to Viviane, Paizlie and Haizie.
She also cherished the friends she considered family: Ron Kelly and Joey Swartz of Phoenix; Jerry Warner of Orlando, Florida; Susie Steiner of Canton; Donna Kavali of Hartville; Cindy and Jeff Wilkoff of Canton; Patsy Poulton of Massillon; and Scott Addessi of Canton.
The family will receive guests from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14, at Lamiell Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15, at Christ the Servant Parish. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Donations may be made in Mary Ann’s memory to Ohio Living Home Health and Hospice at ohioliving.org/foundation/donate; please select “Hospice” as the designation. The family extends its sincerest thanks to the hospice staff for their comfort and care.
