MARY KATHERINE "KAY" MILLER

Mary Katherine "Kay" Miller, age 91, passed away May 7, 2024. Born in 1932, she was the daughter of Roman and Myrtle (VanKirk) Moegling and wife of Gene, with whom she shared 63 years of marriage.

Mary was a 1950 graduate of Central Catholic High School and attended Mary Manse College in Toledo. Like many women of her time, she left college to marry and make a home for her husband and family with 5 children. An intelligent and determined woman, she proudly finished her degree, graduating in 1988 from Walsh College. She loved her work as a librarian, first at St. Paul School in Canton and later as a children's librarian with Stark County District Library, retiring after 14 years. Her love of books and reading was evident in her retirement. She volunteered as St. Peter's children's librarian and for over 20 years in the library at the McKinley Presidential Library and Museum. Her many books surrounded her at the end.

She was a friend to many, keeping regularly in touch with school chums, and including her card club companions of decades. Additionally, she was an active member of the College Club of Canton and a charter member of the Friends of the Library. Mary and Gene enjoyed many years of travel throughout the United States and especially enjoyed their friends as members of the Swing-A-Lings Square Dance Club. A beautiful pianist, Mary gave her own personal piano recital at the Canton Women's Club in 1951. Even in her last years, she could play beautifully from memory.

She is survived by her daughters, Karen (Andy) Evans of Uniontown and Cindy (Bill) Marshall of Frazeysburg; sons, David Miller of Columbus, Tom Miller (Diane Jordy) of Columbus, and Brian Miller (Michelle Stacy) of Sarasota, Florida; four grandsons, Mitchell (Courtney) Hadden of Cleveland, Eric Hadden of Canton, Jason Miller of Tampa, Florida, and Jack Miller of Sarasota, Florida. Also surviving are her niece, Denise Barber and nephew, John Mertz of Greenville, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene, in 2018; parents; brother, Jack Moegling; and sister, Frances Mertz.

Visitation will take place on Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM, Lamiell Funeral Home, Canton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, May 13, 2024, at 10:00 AM, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Canton. Father Tom Bishop will serve as Celebrant. Interment will take place at Warstler Cemetery, Canton.
