MILDRED "NANCY" VIOLAND DEMPSEY
The heavenly gate opened as Mildred "Nancy" Violand Dempsey, was welcomed to her eternal home on June 9, 2023. She was born December 18, 1932, to her late parents, Weakland and Mildred (O'Hare) Reed in Canton, Ohio. Together with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Thomas Violand and by her second husband, Jack Dempsey; sister, Jane Andrews; and brother, Jim Sprague.
Nancy, as she was known to all, graduated in the first class of the newly created Central Catholic High School and graduated as an RN from nursing school at the "old" Mercy Hospital. She spent most of her nursing career working for her husband Dr. Thomas Violand D.O. in his office. Raised in a Catholic home, she loved the church, and her faith was extremely important to her. She believed that being Catholic taught her the value of life and that we are all here for a reason. She truly was the Catholic Ambassador, teacher, and example for her family. Everyone who she met loved Nancy with her constant sweet and loving disposition and her sense of humor. Nancy was a true people person.
Nancy touched many lives during her 90 years, and she will be missed by many. Her life was a blessing to those who survive; her daughter, Kathleen (Larry) Blind; sons, Thomas Violand, Jr. (Gail Sammons), Scott (Jane) Violand; grandchildren, Veronica Brinkerhoff, Megan Violand, Katie Devitt, Shannon Schooley, and Amanda Blind; great-grandchildren, Griffin Schooley and Harlee Devitt;and brother, Bill (Sandy) Sprague.
