Samuel M. Kalkman
Loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away in his sleep at Rose Lane Nursing Home on Sunday, March 11, 2018, at the age of 96. He was born in Alliance, April 24, 1921, a son of the late Clarence and Mary (Shaffer) Kalkman, graduated from Lehman High School in 1939, enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Force, and served as a Corporal in Headquarters and Headquarters Squadron in the 7th Air Force in Okinawa. After receiving his Honorable Discharge on Jan. 25, 1946, he entered the United States Postal Service as a clerk, then transferred to letter carrier in 1962 until his retirement Feb. 3, 1984. Sam was a former member of Lowell Reformed Church of Christ and member of McKinley Lodge #431, F. & A.M., and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Canton, for 75 years. His hobbies were golf, bowling, and playing cards with senior friends, dancing, and eating out with family and friends. Besides his parents, Sam was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Eileen, on Nov. 15, 2009, daughter, Sharon, son David, brother, James, sister, Ann Glosser, and granddaughter, Tricia Kalkman. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Rod and Roseann Kalkman, granddaughters, Michelle (Kalkman) and Lee Horning, Leigh (Kalkman) and Toby Hollemen, both of Montana, Krysti (Kalkman) and Jake Murray, of Columbus, OH, and grandson, Kirk (Annie) McCauley, of Uniontown, great-grandchildren, Ivy Hicks, Andrew and Sierra Holleman, and Austin and Thomas McCauley, and many loving nieces and nephews. Services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Lamiell Funeral Home with Rev. Gary A. Smith, Celebrant, officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors. Friends may call Thursday 10-11 a.m. before the service. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Rose Lane Nursing Home for the love and care they gave to Sam the 4 ½ years he was there. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Sam’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society because of his granddaughter, Tricia Kalkman. Condolences may be sent to: www.lamiellfuneralhome
