Phyllis McAfee Sheil, age 89, passed from the arms of her seven loving children on earth into the arms of our Lord in heaven and those of her husband and daughter on Tuesday after a brief illness. She was born in Canton in 1927 to the late Carl and Josephine McAfee. She was a 1945 graduate of Timken Vocational High School, had worked as a secretary at the Union Metal Manufacturing Company and later at The Peoples Merchants Trust Company and was a member of Saint Joseph Catholic Church. Phyllis was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 1966 and lived another five decades of a full and active life. She loved bowling, reading, playing cards, working puzzles and traveling including a hot air balloon ride at the age of 85. Preceded in death by her husband, James in 2009, daughter, Christine in 1960, brothers, Carl, James and Robert McAfee and sisters, Pauline Woodring and Doris Appleman. Survived by her children, James (Nancy) Sheil, Peggy (Chuck) Wolf, Bobbi (Paul) Bankovich, Luci (Dave) Peterman, Michael (Francine) Sheil, Karen (John) Bosyj and Jeffrey Sheil, sisters-in-law, Mary (Sheil) (Gene) DeChellis and Eileen (McAfee) Schnebelen, 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church with Monsignor Frank Carfagna as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint Joseph Care Center in Louisville or Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Canton.
