Phyllis Marie Spees, age 83, died Thursday, October 29, 2020 due to natural causes. She was born in Louisville on August 4, 1937 and lived in the Canton area. She was a 1955 graduate of Louisville High School, a Special Education Teacher Assistant for the North Canton Schools and was a member of Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and Saint Paul Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society, Funeral Luncheon Committee and a Bingo Volunteer at both churches. Phyllis enjoyed playing tennis, gardening, and baking and cherished time with her family and grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husbands, John Daniel Spees and Raymond Haas, parents Louis and Hilda Marie Frank Violand and sisters, Virginia Ann Heyard and Miriam Mary Violand. Survived by her daughters, Celeste Marie (John) Alfes of Westlake and Suzanne Marie (Peter) Bourlas of North Canton, son Christopher John Spees of Greenville, South Carolina, grandchildren, John Sebastian Alfes, Conrad Joseph Alfes, Daniel Augustine Alfes, Natalie Marie Bourlas, Nicolette Marie Bourlas, Taylor Alexis Spees and Garrett Christopher Spees and brothers, Bernard Violand of Saint Louis, Missouri and Basil Violand of Massillon. Family and friends will meet for a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 11 a.m. at Saint Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with Father Benson Okpara as celebrant. Burial will be in North Canton Cemetery.
