Ruth Haffner Zimmer Hodapp

May 3, 1925 — March 4, 2025

Our wonderful fifth generation matriarch died March 4, 2025 at Aultman Compassionate Care, 60 days before her 100th birthday, Ruth Haffner Zimmer Hodapp. She was born in Canton, Ohio on May 3, 1925 to her late parents, Aloysius and Lillian (Dauterman) Haffner.


Ruth is preceded in death by her first husband, Howard George Zimmer; second husband, William E. Hodapp; stepdaughters, Janice Yates and Carol Huprich; stepson, William E. Hodapp, Jr.; grandson, Adam Miranda; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Walter Sloan; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Norma Haffner; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Albert and Opal Zimmer; and niece, Cheryl Peine.


She leaves an incredible legacy to her family who survive; daughters, Kathy McClanahan, Christie (Russ) Ezouski, Debbie Zimmer, Bonnie Zimmer, Vickie Stage, Laurie Rowe, and Lisa Matako; son, Howard Zimmer, Jr; step sons-in-law, Gary Huprich and William Yates; 8 grandchildren, Brenda, Roy, Stacy, Scott, Brian, Brittany, Haylee, and Aaron; 13 great-grandchildren, Ashley, Brooke, Jacob, Mia, Eden, Dena, Ariel, Davian, Dylan, Nevaeh, Taylor, Christian, and Cooper; 6 great-great-grandchildren, Amelia, Delaney, Nola, Knox, Penelope, and Graham; brother, David (Maureen) Haffner; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.


A long-standing Canton resident, she was a 1943 graduate of McKinley High School and a member of the National Honor Society. She worked for Lattavo Brother Inc., Diebold, and WL Logan Trucking. She was a member of Zion United Church of Christ in North Canton, Flora C. Heidrich Circle of First Church of the Resurrection, McKinley Alumni Association, and AARP. She has shared heartwarming and amazing things seen in her almost 100 years and was a gift to all who knew her. Ruth's life has been nothing short of extraordinary.


Family and friends are welcome for visitation, Sunday, March 9, 2025 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM, Lamiell Funeral Home, Canton, where the service for Ruth will be on Monday, March 10, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Reverend Eli Klingensmith will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery, Canton.
