Samuel R. Smitley was born October 4th, 1955 in Canton, Ohio, to Dick Manos and Jacquelyn (Valentine) Manos. Sam graduated from Lehman High School in 1973 and then graduated from Akron University in 1977 with a Construction Technology degree. He worked for Hammond Lumber, Hammond Construction, and then the U.S. Postal Service until retiring in 2008.
   
  
Famous for his fish fries, Sam ran track since high school, and became an All-American medalist runner in 2010, at the age of 55. A devoted creative, Sam was a skilled pianist, oil painter and photographer. He also loved to write, dance, sing, camp, fish, hunt, hike and play guitar.
   
  
Survived by his four kids, Andrew, Aaron, Amanda, and Ashley Smitley; ex-wives, Vickey (Mike) Isenberg and Linda Smitley;
brother, Scott Smitley; sister, Debbie (Mike) Dyer; and brother-in-law, Mike Hill; followed by many nieces and nephews. Proceeded in death by his parents and sister, Becky (Mike) Hill.
   
  
Family and friends are welcome for visitation on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 from Noon to 1:00 PM, Lamiell Funeral Home, Canton. A Graveside Service will follow visitation at North Lawn Cemetery, Canton. Emerson Roth will preside.
