Samuel Townsend, age 97, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on January 24, 2018 in Lexington, South Carolina. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was retired from the Hoover Company after 42 years of service. He was a member of the Canton Swiss Men's Club, the Elks and the VFW. He enjoyed woodworking and water skiing. Samuel was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Ladyne Townsend, his daughter, Deborah Soduk, his parents, Samuel and Ida and three brothers. He is survived by his children and spouses, Gary and Louise Townsend of Townsend, Tennessee, James and Peg Townsend of Prosperity, South Carolina, Mary Kay and Mark Endres of Hanahan, South Carolina, Pamela Hoey of Akron, Ohio and Susan Townsend of Lexington, South Carolina, 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Also survived by two sisters, Zelda and Barbara and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. at the Lamiell Funeral Home.
