STEVE WHITMER

Steve Whitmer, age 68, passed away on June 27, 2023, residing in Massillon, Ohio. He was survived by his partner, Tom Hazelip of 37 years; sister, Pam Bester (Gary); brothers, Jeff Whitmer (Sue) and Doug Whitmer (Adam); nephews, Bobby Bester (Nicole), Matthew Whitmer, and Colin Whitmer; niece, Stephanie Benjamin; great-nephews, Nathan Bester and Brandon Benjamin, Jr.; great-nieces, Deja Benjamin, Aujanae Benjamin, Madison Bester, and Chloe Bester; and great-great-niece, Noelle Benjamin-Burch. Steve was preceded in death by his parents. Steve was born on November 8, 1954, in Canton, Ohio, to parents, Jeanne Whitmer and Robert Whitmer of Canton, Ohio.

He graduated from Lehman High School in 1972. Steve was a classic car enthusiast (gearhead) and an avid NASCAR fan, with his favorite driver being Jeff Gordon. His love of all things automotive led him to a twenty-year career at Brake Specialties until they closed. He was known as the "Best classic Corvette brake technician in Stark County". His next career allowed him to live out his lifelong dream of being an over the road truck driver where he logged a few million miles, which were pure enjoyment for him. Steve retired from this profession due to health problems in 2018.

A celebration of life is scheduled for Sunday, July 23, 2023, at 1:00 PM. Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate Steve's life with his favorite meal, Thanksgiving dinner.
